080721 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE COMPLETES DAY THREE OF PUBLIC HEARING.

The ABG Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development which is conducting hearings on counterfeit products being sold in Bougainville ended day three at the ABG Parliament house.
The Committee comprised of the Chairman and member for Lule, Honorable JOSEPH MONA the member for South Nasioi, Honorable JUSTIN BORGIA and the member for TEUA, honorable, CHARLES KAKAPETAI.
The Deputy Chairman and member for SUIR, POLYCAP SUITO and the member for MAKIS, Honorable, JUNIOR TUMARE who are also members of this committee were not able to join the committee at these hearings.
The Committee which conducted awareness in all major districts in Bougainville started hearing on Tuesday this week.
They started with Government Departments involved in the approval of all imported and exported products into Papua New Guinea and including the Autonomous Region.
They saw NAQIA, Health Quarantine officers and continued with major import and export Businesses on Bougainville.
They also saw officers from TRUKAI, Pacific Industries, Coca Cola and Goodman Fielder.
Yesterday and today they met with Managers of Bougainville Food Supplies, JOMIK, BCM, Household, Norak and Happy Sound limited.
The Chairman thanked companies that made every effort to appear before the Committee and said their information would help shape the Business activities of the region into the future.
The Committee will present their findings to the Bougainville House of Representatives in the next sitting.

060721 ABG PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON COUNGTERFEIT PRODUCTS START HEARING IN BUKA.

The ABG Parliamentary Committee on Counterfeit Products has completed its awareness with the people of Bougainville and today started hearings in Buka starting with Government agencies charged with the import and export of goods into and out of the country.
Today the team met with the Health Quarantine officers, Officer from NAQIA, The President of the Buka Business Association, and other Businessmen and women involved in the Import Export Business.
Tomorrow they will get information from manufacturers agents on Bougainville, Trukai Industries, Pacific Industries and big companies including JOMIK and the Chinese Businesses operating in Bougainville.
Chairman of the Committee and the member for LULE, JOSEPH MONA told New Dawn FM that his committee has traveled throughout the region and got many information on the importance of this subject.
He said it is the responsibility of the Government to protect its citizens from getting ill by consuming food processed without approval or imported without proper approval from Health authorities.
The committee continues its hearing tomorrow.

011220PEOPLE OF TEUA WANTS TOURISM AWARENESS CONDUCTED IN THEIR DISTRICT.

PEOPLE of Teua Constituency of Kunua District in North Bougainville have requested the ABG Directorate of Tourism to conduct a tourism awareness in their district.
This request was made by the Director of Lifecare Bougainville Samuel Tororia on behalf of his people.
The aim of this awareness is to inform and educate the indigenous resource owners on tourism in Bougainville as an alternative to sustainable economic development, caring for human life, nature, culture and information technology in the constituency and Bougainville as whole.
Mr. Tororia says despite the Constituency having the potential of being a tourism hub in the region, people lack vital information and education on the challenges and opportunities encountered in running a Directorate of Tourism Business and how best the people can tap into and take ownership and participate productively in this business.
Mr. Tororia and his Lifecare Bougainville group proposed that the target groups of Teua Directorate of Tourism Awareness include youths, women, business community and those interested in tourism activities.
Mr. Tororia explained further that the focus of this awareness must be on the establishment, management and administration of the Directorate of Tourism business within the Teua Constituency Context.
He confirmed that all the arrangements and organizational formalities of the awareness will be done by the coordinator of Lifecare Bougainville in advance within a period of at least a month in close consultation with the people and leaders of Teua Constituency.
This is to ensure the awareness team achieves its missions and goals.

070520 SOE RESTRICTIONS CAUSED DEATHS IN KUNUA DISTRICT.

MEMBER for TEUA Constituency CHARLES KAKAPETAI has announced that the SOE restrictions for the first 21 days have affected patients in the health centers of Kunua District.
Hon. Kakapetai said critically ill patients were advised by the nurses not to transfer to Buka as movement was restricted.
He said many critical patients died because they obeyed the emergency orders and stayed back.
Hon. Kakapetai said some of the patients were admitted to Buka General Hospital after the lapsed of the first 21 days of SOE and are still under treatment.
