The ABG member for Konnou and Minister for Police, Correctional Service and Justice, WILLIE MASIU yesterday closed the one-week Konnou Peace Games, 2016.

Speaking at the closing and presentation ceremony, an emotional member said that “ALL GOOD THINGS END” and life has to go on after the sportsmen and women return home after the games.

MR. MASIU said that during the games, a selected Konnou team was also done to represent Konnou at the MARCH Bougainville games to be held in Wakunai.

AND he called on the selected Konnou side to continue to practice as practice makes perfect.

He said that the games has united the people of Konnou as there was no disturbance during the games, either by officials, Players and supporters.

The member also announced the venue for the next Konnou Peace Games as TABAGO Parish.

080414AGM APPOINTS NEW BOUGAINVILL SOCCER EXECUTIVES

The Bougainville Football Soccer Association’s Annual General Meeting has voted JOE MAINEKE a Soccer veteran as the President for the next four years.
This was revealed by the President on New Dawn FM today.
MR. MAINEKE said that his deputy is SUSSEL TSUGA ,JUNIOR VICE PRESIDENT, PETER TAREASI and with ten other Committee members to support the running of the Association in the next four years.
He said that he was happy to lead the Association in the next four years stating that Bougainville Football Association was now preparing for the official work to start on the MANETAI SOCCER ACADEMY.
He said that the FIFA committee has already approved the establishment of the academy in Manetai Central Bougainville with funds totalling ONE POINT 8 MILLION KINA.
MR. MAINEKE said that the ABG through the Community Development Minister, MELCHIOR DARE has also allocated Two Million Kina as counter funding for the project that will eventually boost the level of soccer in the region to another level.
The President of Bougainville Soccer Association also announced a special meeting scheduled for the First of May 2014 in Arawa and wants all committee members to attend.

020214SOCCER ACADEMY TO CHANGE MANETAI AREA

The proposed Bougainville Soccer Academy that will be funded by FIFA will become a reality soon and will change the Manetai area forever.

The proposed FIFA project was supposed to be built at HAHELA parish grounds but due to landowners issues this was moved to Manetai.

And since this changes were effected FIFA officials have been visiting this place to make sure everything including the land acquisition was in order.

The local ABG member for Eivo/Torau Melchior Dare and three other Ministers, Minister for lands, MICHAEL ONI and Minister for Primary Industry NICHOLAS DARKU were present yesterday for a official signing of a MOU with the landowners to allow the project to move forward.

The project will create economic activities around the area and will be the catalyst for development once the Manetai Limestone gets off the ground. Work on the project is also underway according to the local member and Minister for Community Development. MELCHIOR DARE.

The family of the Grade 11 student from Hutjena Secondary School who was hurt during commotion after the Buka Rugby League Grand Final last Sunday and the Tsitalato Warriors Club on Buka island yesterday reconciled.

The reconciliation was held at the New Dawn Fm premises in Buka town.

The ceremony was witnessed by the member for Konnou, Wilfred Komba who is the Minister for Commerce and Trade, ABG minister for Community Development, youth and Sports, Melchior Dare, ACP Bougainville Paul Kamuai, former Regional member Fidelis Semoso and Malasang and Buin chiefs.

K1,500 in prizes for Bougainville rugby tourney

Rugby union teams are gearing up for the Tsitalato Rugby Union Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday next week. The two day tournament will be held at Hutjena Oval.

A competition organiser Francis Tony told New Dawn FM that team registration closes on Wednesday. Mr Tony called on teams to register before Wednesday. The registration fee is K50 per team. The draw will be made on Thursday in preparation for the first game on Friday.

Mr Tony says K1,500 will be paid to the competition winners – K700 for first, K500 for second and K300 for third.
