The head of the NAZARETH rehabilitation centre at Chabai, SR LORRAINE GARASU was lost of words this afternoon when MS GINA WILSON Counsellor at the Australian High Commission presented keys of the newly built safe house at Hahela on Buka island.
SR. LORRAINE said that she was happy that finally they have a safe house on Buka closer to the Police and the courts.
She told the small gathering that it was a near impossible task in trying to help domestic violence victims from their base at Chabai which was isolated.
And getting women and girls for hospital checks and Police and court sessions have been very difficult in the past.
She also thanked the Australian Government for their support in building the rehabilitation centre and the Safe house in Buin and now in Buka.
SR. LORRAINE also thanked the Law and Justice Committee that made recommendations for these infrastructures to be built.
She said without Australia’s support her work would have been very difficult.
SR. LORRAINE also acknowledged two programs that her centre continues to run on Peace Building and Gender Based Violence that is also supported by DFAT.
