220520 ARAWA NURSING COLLEGE AIMS TO STABILIZE STUDENTS’ LEARNING.

ARAWA Nursing College Registrar Melchior Dare mentioned that students learning performance is not stable and students are not showing full concentration on their studies because of the lack of proper accommodations.
Mr. Dare said students are disturbed by many outside influences that lead to poor learning performances because they are residing at their own cost within the Arawa town areas.
He said learning is restrained with limited capacities as the college is currently at a temporary location with limited infrastructures.
The Registrar extended his acknowledgement to the Regional Member Honorable Joe Lera and the Bougainville Technical Services who are fast tracking a two-storey dormitory to complete quickly at its permanent location.
He said the completion of dormitory will make learning easier for the students by accommodating them in a more suitable environment to concentrate on their studies and their academic performance will be stabilized and improved.

210520-RAIVET PASS CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FOR THE PASSING OF THE LATE DR JUSTIN KEHATSIN.

THE Acting Chief Secretary of Bougainville Thomas Raivet on behalf of the ABG and the Bougainville Public Service has extend deepest sympathies to the immediate family of the Late Dr Justin Kehatsin and his people of Lontis, Haku Constituency.

Mr Raivet said it was with deep sadness that he learnt yesterday of the passing of one Bougainville's own senior statesman.

The late Dr Kehatsin was from Tegese village in the Haku Constituency. He joined the Bougainville Public Service in January 2017, where he served as the Secretary of the Department of Education until his timely passing.

He described the late Dr Kehatsin as a very humble man who served Bougainville and his people wholeheartedly, a simple man who displayed humility, gentleness in his character and a very loving person who served Bougainville with great commitment and dignity.

Mr Raivet said during the late Dr Kehatsin's time as a Secretary for Education, he had a vision to improve Bougainville's education quality and lift its standard to where Bougainville was prior to the crisis.

Prior to joining the Bougainville Public Service, the late Dr Kehatsin was a lecturer at the PNG University of Technology, under its Language and Communication Department.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

Mr Raivet said it is truly a sad time for Bougainville and acknowledge the unwavering efforts of the late Dr Kehatsin leadership in Bougainville's education sector.

130520 HAHELA PRIMARY SCHOOL HEADMASTER CONCERNED

The Headmaster of the Hahela Primary School, FABIAN ANISIA is worried that the Covid-19 quarantine centre is within the Hahela Primary School premises.
Speaking on New Dawn FM this afternoon, MR. ANISIA said that this was a concern for him as persons going to the quarantine facility have to pass by the school grounds.
He said as the biggest urban school on Bougainville this was a concern and they must find ways to make sure infected persons donot walk to the school on foot but must be taken by vehicles.
The Headmaster will be meeting with parents and citizens and guardians tomorrow to discuss how best they can start the school without endangering the lives of the Teachers and students of the school.
The School will take in classes next Monday the 18th of May, 2020.

190216 ASITAVI GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL TAKES ON TWO GRADES 11 FOR 2016

A launching to mark the introduction of grade 11 into its curriculum will the held at the Asitavi Girls High School next week.
Since the reopening of the Secondary High School in 2005, the school has been taking in students from grades 9 to 10 only.
With the building of new infrastructures recently by both the Education Department and the Regional Member Hon Joe Lera, the school will now take in for the first time grade 11 to carter for an increase of the number of students completing grade 10.
The introduction of grade 11, will now bring the school to take in four classes for grade 9s, 5 classes for grade 10s and 2 classes for grade 11s with a total number of 400 plus students enrolled for 2016 academy year.
Asitavi Secondary High School according to the Head Mistress, Elaine Baris the school urgently needs an additional dormitory and an extra staff house from what they currently have which are, 9 classrooms, 6 dormitories, 1 mess hall and a newly built science lab funded by the Education Department now under construction.
The School has just put out a Tok Save to all the Parents and guidance advising them that the school is now in its third week, many students are yet to dress up like students and not just some one doing gardening. The Head Mistress wants to see every student properly dressed in week four and is also appealing the parents to honor the BEB discussion for paying the project fees to the school Board of Management.

080415TAKALI WARNS PARENTS TO BE ON STANDBY

The Principal of the Hutjena Secondary School, MARTIN TAKALI today called on parents and Citizens of students attending the Hutjena Secondary School to chip in to make sure the children’s learning at the school is not disturbed.
MR. TAKALI said that he has already advised authorities including the Bougainville National Parliamentarians to assist the school.
MR. TAKALI told New Dawn FM that he does not want to burden the parents but if the government does not come good quickly he would have no option, but call on the Parents and Citizens to contribute.
MR. TAKALI said that he personally does not want the school to close due to somebody’s failure at the National Education level.

080415 FIVE BOUGAINVILLE SCHOOLS ON THE VERGE OF CLOSURE

Five Bougainville boarding schools are on the verge of closing if funds owed to them under the National Government’s Free Education Policy are not released by next week.
This was revealed today by the Principal of Hutjena Secondary School on Buka island, MARTIN TAKALI.
MR TAKALI told New Dawn FM that his schools was supposed to get SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND KINA for the first two terms of this year which was seventy percent of the total allocation to the school.
He said that the remaining THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND for the remaining 3rd and 4th term are normally paid in June.
MR. TAKALI said his school was only paid about THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINA which is FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND KINA short.
He said this balance has to be paid so that the School continues to operate up to June.
MR. TAKALI said that some schools received their SEVENTY PERCENT allocation and is questioning why all schools were not treated the same way.
He said that the KOROMIRA TECHNICAL SCHOOL had already closed because they did not get anything at all for the 2015 academic year.

He has also written to the Bougainville Education Office and the ABG to intervene and assist his school to make sure students are not deprived from their right to education because of late payments.

The Acting Secretary for the ABG Education Department, MARY REMI tonight officially welcomed Education delegates that are here for the week long Education Teacher's Rating workshop that will start on Monday.

Ms Remi made these remarks at the welcome dinner at the Kuri village resort tonight.

She said that Bougainville was privileged to welcome these delegates and hope they will enjoy Bougainville's hospitality.

On the Ratings, she thanked the ABG and the Education department for funding the combined Highlands and New Guinea Islands Regional Ratings Conference.

The Regional Member for Bougainville, Joe Lera was also present at the welcome dinner.
