As the Bougainville women celebrated the National Women’s Day the theme was ‘Digit ALL Innovation & Technology for Gender Equality’.
Three panel of discussion took place with women leaders in Bougainville on the agricultural, economic and good governance sector on the development of women through these sectors.
On the economic development panel and the use of communication technology, different panelist discussed with women gathered on the challenges and how technology was an advancement in their businesses and workplace.
Speaking on the panel was Julie Moroko who is a local Entrepreneur in Buka who runs a tailoring shop.
She expressed the importance of technology and how she used Facebook as a communication technology for her advancement in selling and advertising products online.
she explained she doesn’t need to sit at the market place but only her phone as a technology helps in doing that.
Also, women who represent Bougainville Partnership in the panel was Claire Toboen and Belinda-Maree Gara where they talked about how technology empower women and girls in areas of economic development.
Claire Toboen who works at the Community Support Facility under the PNGAs Partnership with Bougainville.
She explained regarding women farmers where there is a gap in terms of technology with these women farmers.
However, they are challenged with technology advancement and only communicate face-to-face to address the women farmers.
