210323 A Bougainvillean boxer preps for regional games in Wakunai
New Dawn FM News
A Bougainvillean boxer is prepping other amateur boxers to participate in the regional games tournament to be held in Wakunai following week.
Sporting codes especially volleyball teams from Nissan and boxing teams from Catarets arrived in Buka last Saturday to prepare themselves before leaving to attend the regional games coming Saturday.
A total of fifty sportsmen and women are being accommodated by the UOG AROB Campus Director Mr Joe Lera at the Polytech centre Hutjena.
Professional boxing champion Mr Thaddeus Katoa from Catarets is among the sports trainer who is enthusiastically supporting former Boxing legend Raymond Keso.
Mr Katoa is excited imparting his fighting skills and techniques to the younger fighters currently in the Bullets boxing club.
He said training on home grown soil is tough as he has no proper equipments and use sand bags to train at the moment.
Katoa is appealing to the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) to support sporting codes by setting up a gym or sporting facility for sportsmen and women to prepare themselves.
Senior boxing coach Raymond Keso says he wants the ABG government to push for Nissan Atolls regional team to focus on boxing.
Keso is interested to develop homegrown talent from Nissan, Catarets, Mortlock, Tasman and Fead atolls to become boxing champs.
Keso further emphasized the need for proper equipments and facility to see the dream of the sport become a reality for the islanders. ENDS//AK
