281122 Violence is a learnt behaviour
New Dawn FM News
Violence is a learnt behaviour which needs to be unlearnt. When a child or person experiences violence in the home, this means the home is not a safe place.
According to Director and Founder of the Nazareth Centre Sr Lorraine Garasu, families and individuals are assisted when it comes to family or sexual violence.
She said thousands of people around the world are marching and celebrating this day to put a stop to gender-based violence and also advocate on how we can put an end to violence.
Sr Garasi says violence simply occurs when there is no equality between a man and woman.
‘Especially gender does not specify whether it is a male or female, No. Gender is centred around the roles acquired in a family.
‘When there is no equality in the family, roles and responsibilities of each person is not properly identified and so the woman ends up doing more household chores than her husband,’ she said.
Sr Garasu added that there must be fair distribution of labor and distribution of privileges.
She urged the male counterpart as partners to shoulder the household chores including rearing of children, gardening, cooking and cleaning. ENDS///AK
