241122 BOUGAINVILLE RESERVED BUSINESS
New Dawn FM News
Chinese Nationals doing business on Buka Island, has Bougainvilleans concerned about the businesses they have engaged in such as wholesale and bakery.
Former public servant Francis Loio expressed this concern saying these businesses can be done by local Bougainvilleans.
Loio said the Chinese can assist the people through downstream processing of commodities such as cocoa, coconut and tuna such as factories to contribute to finished products sold locally.
The Autonomous Bougainville Government act Entitled Bougainville Inward Investment Act 2013, governs the laws and regulations of the business operations in AROB.
An amendment was made to the Act in 2018.
Loio believes down stream processing must be carried out by the Chinese and other foreign nationals and allow Bougainvilleans to do retail of finished products.
He said wholesale businesses and bakery can be done by the local men and women.
‘Chinese should only build factories such as tuna for locals to retail the finished products,’ he said. ENDS///AK
