161122 One hundred and thirty Cataracts patients will undergo surgery to clear their pupil
New Dawn FM News
One hundred and thirty Cataract patients will undergo surgery when the Ophthalmologists (eye surgeons) visit the Buka General Hospital, nextweek.
Director Medical Services Dr Mathias Tovilu said cataract patients will receive surgery to clear the lens of their eye.
The cataract is the clouding of the normal clear lens of the eye that leads to decrease in vision.
The procedure will require the surgery to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens, is positioned in the same place as your natural lens.
Dr Tovilu said the program is funded under the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG).
He said the absence of general eye care is significant to the region as a whole.
Bougainville currently does not have an eye clinic to treat eye care in the region.
Amongst these the other one hundred and forty-five, eye problem patients will also have their eyes examined, diagnosed and treated.
Dr Tovilu added that Opticians will bring eye glasses and contact lenses to sell for interested persons as well.
Optician is a professional who can help fit eye glasses, contact lenses and other vision correction devices. ENDS AK
