280922 THREE DEAD AS VIOLENCE ERUPTS AT TONOLEI LOGGING SITE

Two locals and a foreign national are dead from a shootout at the Tonolei logging site in Buin South Bougainville this morning.
Buin Police Station Commander, INSPECTOR JOHN POPUI confirmed and said that the incident occurred during the early hours of this morning between 6am and 7am being the 28th of September,2022.
He said Mekamui 1 attacked the logging camp killing one foreigner who was operating the excavator instantly. One other foreigner was also shot in the chest and was rushed to Arawa General Hospital.
INSPECTOR POPUI said other locals who were killed are yet to be retrieved as they were still fighting with the Camp securities.
Two other locals wounded and others were brought to the Buin Health centre.
Inspector POPUI said 8 foreignors who were checking trees in the bush when the attack took place are still stranded at the logging site.
He said the Tug boat has been moved to anchor off shore at Muisuru village.
The camp was only started three weeks ago and the company had started recruiting Chain saw ,equipment operators and builders to start building proper camp for the full operation to commence.
