THE Office of the Member for South Bougainville will continue to partner with the police service in South Bougainville to ensure effective policing and a peaceful law and order environment.
Representative from the member’s office and executive officer, Israel Pais gave assurance during the Bougainville Police Service dedication mass in Buin on Tuesday (March 15th, 2022).
The Bougainville Police Service re-committed its police men and women under the theme “Reflecting on our past challenges, renewing our commitment to God and the people of Bougainville and realigning our focus to implement our Vision, Mission and our Purpose to ensure better service delivery.”
Mr Pais challenged the police men and women to change their attitude and approach to their duties and responsibilities in order to effective law and order enforcers.
Mr Pais reminded police officers at the dedication service that they have a noble and a divine responsibility and they should do their job with courage and honesty.
“Police officers should always uphold the law and do the right thing at all times even when no one is watching also.
“Police officers should know that they will be faced with temptations and challenges but they must be strong and have the courage to overcome these temptations,” said Mr Pais.
Speaking at the same dedication service, Deputy Police Commissioner Francis Tokura called on his officers for a change of mindset as they embark on the 2022 working year.
Mr Tokura said 2022 is an important year because Bougainville Police Service will be preparing again to conduct the 2022 National elections.
“I want to warn all police officers of the challenges that we as the police will be facing in the coming elections. I do not want to hear that my officers are taking bribes from the intending candidates.
“Despite the challenges and the short comings regarding issues like funding, manpower and logistics we were able to deliver successful elections like the 2019 referendum election.
Mr Tokura told the police men and women that it was their duty to carry out their responsibilities diligently and ensure the people freely exercise their right to elect the leader they want to represent them in the parliament.
“As police officers, we must continue to carry out our duties with honesty and integrity. Respect one another and the authority and change mindset for the betterment of the people of Bougainville, “said Mr. Tokura.
