280122 ROBERT HAMAL SAWA NAMED AS PATRON FOR THE BUKA SUMATIN ASSISTANCE AGENCY

The first fundraising and launching of the Buka Sumatin Assistance Agency was very successful although not many people attended the first fundraising.
The chairman, JONATHAN AGEVA and the CEO, BENARD HANGA were happy to welcome those who were present for the launching and first fundraising.
The ABG member for HAGOGOHE and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, ROBERT HAMAL SAWA who was later named at the Patron for the Agency fully supported the initiative and said that he will work with the Agency to make sure our future leaders are supported through this agency.
Minister SAWA also pledged TWO THOUSAND KINA towards this fundraising drive.

280122 BUKA SUMATIN ASSISTANCE AGENCY LAUNCHED BY PRESIDENT TOROAMA

ABG President Hon ISHMAEL TOROAMA this morning launched the BUKA SUMATIN ASSISTANCE AGENCY at the Kuri Village resort.
The AGENCY established by parents of tertiary students will fundraise to support parents who register with them with ONE THOUSAND KINA.
Chairman of the Agency and former Teacher, MR. JONATHAN AGEVA and CEO and Bougainville Musician, BERNARD HANGA and Treasurer and former public servant, JOE TSERAHA told New Dawn FM that the agency has been established to fundraise and support students with School fees and other fees for tertiary students.
MR. AGEVA said although the Government and members promise to support students, these funds come very late and in the first semesters students study under pressure due to non payment of school fees and other such fees.
He said many parents find it difficult to enroll their students because they prepare late for their children.
The Chairman and his two members said that parents must start fundraising when their children are in Grade 12 and doing well so that they are ready if they are accepted in tertiary institutions.
In his opening remarks, ABG President, HON ISHMAEL TOROAMA thanked the parents for initiating such agency to help themselves and their students.
He said he was happy to attend their gathering as he believes in people helping themselves instead of just asking for funds from the government and members of Parliament.
MR. TOROAMA pledged TWO THOUSAND KINA towards their fundraising drive.

280122 MISSING BOAT RESCUED BY DISASTER OFFICERS

A lone boat coming from Nissan yesterday ran out of petrol near Buka island yesterday afternoon and sent a distress signal to the Bougainville Disaster and Climate Change directorate who responded immediately.
When the boat failed to arrive in Buka, New Dawn FM was notified to send a emergency message for Haku and Pororan areas to be on the lookout of a drifting boat with 4 passengers and 10 live pigs.
The emergency and rescue team left Buka for the last location by 6pm and by 9 pm they had rescued the boat with all its passengers.
The Disaster and Emergency team also reported that there were 9 passengers and 11 pigs when they supplied them petrol to continue to Buka town where they arrived at 3am this morning.

270122BUIN POLICE CARRY AWARENESS

The Buin Police Commander, INSPECTOR JOHN POPUI says that Buin Police have started carrying out awareness on law and order in Buin town and nearby villages.
He said they started from the temporary Buin market to the small street vendors and also awareness on drinking in public places.
INSPECTOR POPUI also called on people not to enter New Dawn FM and Telikom facilities in Buin town and that persons drinking at these premises will be prosecuted by Police.
The Buin Police Station Commander also appealed to the public to go home after market on Thursdays and Saturdays and not to stay back and break bottles on the streets.
He said Police will be tough on law breakers.
Meanwhile, two Police officers who have threatened the Southern Police Commander under the influence of liquor this afternoon will be dealt with internally.

270122SOUTH BOUGAINVILLE POLICE GEAR UP FOR SOUTH BOUGAINVILLE FOOTBALL

South Bougainville Police from substations of TOROKINA, BANA and SIWAI will be out on a mini operation to secure BUIN TOWN during the one-week, South Bougainville member’s Soccer competition.
The Soccer competition for both male and females will attract teams from all over South Bougainville.
The games have been played throughout South Bougainville in the last four years.
Buin Police Station Commander, INSPECTOR JOHN POPUI told New Dawn FM this afternoon that Bougainville Police will be in full swing during the games to make sure the games are played in a safe and peaceful environment.
The Inspector said that the mini operation is code named MASIU CUP 2022.
The games will be held in Buin town from the 28th of January to the 4th of February,2022.
The member for South Bougainville and Minister for ICT, Hon TIMOTHY MASIU who was in DUBAI would be in Buin to witness the games.

The Association to be called BUKA SUMATIN ASSISTANCE AGENCY will fundraise to support parents who register with ONE THOUSAND KINA.

260122 COMMITTEE SET TO PREPARE ARAWA MOVE

Former Chairman of Central Bougainville combined Council of chairmen, JOHN DONA says that a committee set up in Arawa to prepare for the Government’s move to Arawa had its first meeting today and the turn-out was good.
MR. DONA told New Dawn FM from Arawa that the instructions from the office of the President is to clear the White house, the former Provincial Government building, the New Guinea Loyds bank building and other lands that the Government will use when it moves to Arawa.
MR. DONA said that the next meeting will include people operating in these areas.
The Government has land in Kieta and Toniva apart from Arawa town.
Meanwhile, former senior District Government officer, PATRICK HEROMATE has supported the move by the ABG to move its headquarters to Arawa.
He told New Dawn FM that this was the best news for Bougainville in the new year.
MR. HEROMATE said that Buka can have the House Parliament and other big operations and Arawa become the headquarter again because it has the infrastructure and the land available whilst leasing land for Business and Government is very high in Buka.

The President of the South Bougainville Football Association, MR. CHRIS NAWA has also announced increased prizes to be won at this year’s South Bougainville Member’s Cup.
He said for the Men’s the first Prize will be SIXTEEN THOUSAND KINA, second Prize EIGHT THOUSAND KINA and 3rd Prize will be FIVE THOUSAND KINA and 3rd Prize will be FOUR THOUSAND KINA.
For the women’s team the first Prize will be NINE THOUSAND KINA, second Prize will be FIVE THOUSAND KINA, FOUR THOUSAND KINA 3rd place and THREE THOUSAND KINA fourth Place.
The games will be held in Buin town.
