210121 NINE LAND OWNER GROUPS WANT PANGUNA MINE TO RE-OPENED

Patrick Heromate a leader and member of one of the nine Panguna Landowners Association members groups says he and his association had a meeting on Monday and have come up with some ways in which Bougainvilleans can help our government gain revenue for our region.
Mr Heromate says this is a message to the ABG government. The nine landowners say they would like to meet with the ABG and talk about re-opening Panguna mine. And discuss some ways in which this can be done without involving foreigners.
According to him there are terms & conditions that the ABG government must comply with. He says this is not going to be easy and the final decision must not come from only one person but from everyone.
Moreover, if the mining does re-open, they want locals to be engaged in working and not getting outsiders to work for us. This way, people can benefit from the mine.
Mr Heromate also says the association does not want what repetition from 1987 but a change for Bougainville. And most importantly, they want the BCL Company owned by Bougainvilleans start up the re-opening process..
These landowners say they want Bougainville to be ready for Independence and this is one way. They also call on the government to start preparing educated people to help operate the mine.

210121TOROKINA LEADER WANTS ANSWERS FOR SHIPS VISIT TO TOROKINA

A prominent chief from TOROKINA, MICHAEL PIRIRI today called on the Governments of PAPUA NEW GUINEA and BOUGAINVILLE to immediately explain why four large ships have been floating at sea near TOROKINA since December.
MR. PIRIRI made this call after accompanying a government team to TOROKINA to talk to the people who have been seeing these ships and their lights in the night.
He said that the people confirmed that they have been sending drones to the mainland from their ships.
He questioned if these ships were fishing vessels then why send these drones to the mountains and not the sea to monitor the fish.
MR. PIRIRI said that rubber boats from the ships have been seeing near PURUATA island recently.

200120TOROAMA VOTES IN PETATZ

President of the Autonomous Bougainville Government Ishmael Toroama casted his vote today at Petatz Island for the Bougainville Regional Seat By-Elections.
The President was joined by members of his cabinet and senior members of the Bougainville Public Service at the island for the Bougainville Executive Council Meeting on the island who also casted their votes which was facilitated by the PNG Electoral Commission.
After casting his vote President Toroama said that this was a momentous event for Bougainville in electing its representative in the National Parliament.
President Toroama urge Bougainvilleans to vote for a leader who will work with the Autonomous Bougainville Government and with him as the President.
He says Bougainvilleans must not vote for a leader who isolates themselves and does not want to cooperate with the ABG which is the legitimate political authority on the ground.
He added that his main concern was effective service delivery to the people and that cooperation with the four National MP’s of Bougainville could help to alleviate a lot of development challenges in the region.
The President says the person that Bougainville elects as the Regional Member must also be the voice of the people of Bougainville in the national parliament.
President Toroama said whoever is elected must always remember the political independence aspirations of Bougainville and feverishly work towards achieving that objective in light of the ratification of the Bougainville Referendum results by the National Parliament.
From past experience the ABG has had a tumultuous relationship with Bougainville’s four National MP’s over the years.
President Toroama said that he is willing to put that behind the ABG and work on fostering cordial relations with the National MP’s to encourage unity amongst Bougainville’s leaders before Bougainville becomes independent.

200121 ONE DAY POLLING EXTENDED BY ANOTHER DAY

The PNG EC has extended the One Day Polling conducted today throughout Bougainville for another day that is tomorrow.
This is because many voters were taken off guard and did not vote today and also in some places polling started late.
An officer from the PNGEC, MR. JUSTIN SOHEKE told New Dawn FM this afternoon that the Provincial Returning Officer has approved one extra polling day tomorrow all throughout the region.
Polling should be completed by tomorrow afternoon.

200121 NOT MANY PEOPLE VOTED IN ONE DAY POLLING

It seems that many people did not vote in the Bougainville Regional seat By-election today as noted by New Dawn FM at a number of polling booths today.
In all the Polling booths visited by New Dawn FM in BUKA town, KUBU, HAHELA, IETA , MANOB and Hutjena there was no crowd as in the past elections, the people walked quietly and voted for their three choices.
New Dawn FM managed to take pictures of three candidates voting, two at the Bel iSI Park and one in Manob village, Selau.
Candidate 13, PETER LEMAY TSIAMALILI and Candidate 15 IAN MICHAEL MAPYA voted at Bel Isi park whilst Candidate 11, PETER MANUKA voted with his followers at Manob village, Selau.
Candidate, PETER LEMAY TSIAMALILI was happy that the PNGEC conducted the election to fill the vacant position in Parliament but said that the PNGEC and OBEC failed to carry enough awareness on the issues highlighted at the Polling booth that there was no special Polling booth to cater for People in town who had their names in their wards.
He said as a result not many people have voted in this election.
Candidate, IAN MICHAEL MAPYA also acknowledged the work of the PNGEC but was disappointed with the no-excitement that the voters displayed at today’s polling.

200120ISSUANCE OF TRAVEL APPROVAL LETTER CANCELED AND ADDITIONAL POINT OF ENTRY MEASURES ISSUED.

THE Ministerial Directive 1.6.2 on Issuance of Electronic Confirmation Travel Letters to intending travelers and crew members into Bougainville has been revoked.
This Ministerial Directive is based on the advice of the BEC Endorsed Covid-19 Public Health Committee, as chaired by the Health Secretary.
All intending travelers into Bougainville must present a COVID-19 Medical Clearance Certificate issued by recognized public and private medical officer.
Intending travelers must also issue Airline Passenger Travel Form as part of confirmation of passenger’s travel into Bougainville.
Intending travelers into Bougainville are not required to obtain a TRAVEL APPROVAL or CONFIRMATION Letter to purchase an airline ticket.
It is mandatory that intending travelers by sea or air and crew members of both shipping and airline operators obtain a COVID-19 Medical Clearance with 48-72 hours before travel through a GeneXpert Testing Facility.
Only travelers with negative COVID-19 test result will be allowed entry into Bougainville.

200121BEC CONVENES IN PETATZ ISLAND.

The Petatz Island Community in Tonsu Constituency, North Bougainville gave a rousing welcome to President Ishmael Toroama and his cabinet upon their arrival on the island today.
President Toroama and members of his cabinet as well as senior members of the Bougainville administration were on the island to convene the Bougainville Executive Council (BEC) meeting today.
This is the very first time BEC has been convened in a rural setting where the people can see the Toroama Administration in its entirety.
During the welcome ceremony, President Toroama thanked the people for their welcome to the government and their continued support on its development priorities.
President Toroama urged the islanders to remain steadfast in their support of his government and to continue actively participate in developing Bougainville’s democratic structures and economic development initiatives.
He said that the mandate the people have given to the leaders is to define the 97% outcome of the referendum that voted for independence.
He added that the Bougainville Executive Council is committed to this process and its focus will be to delivering independence for the people of Bougainville.
Key agendas in the BEC are the impending Joint Supervisory Body meeting with Prime Minister James Marape and the National Government as well as the presentation of the 100 days’ reports of each cabinet minister’s 100 Days report.
Several ministers also made their BEC Submissions for cabinet to deliberate on in their respective departments.
President Toroama said BEC will be holding its meetings in the other districts on Bougainville to give the people an opportunity to engage with their leaders.
Meanwhile President Toroama also made a donation of K20, 000 from the ABG for the refurbishment of the Petatz Island health facility.
This would assist the islanders with their immediate health needs and offer further assistance to other islands such as Pororan and Matsungan islands.

150121 BOUGAINVILLE MUSIC ARTS ACADEMY ROADSHOW

Arawa town will for the first time see and hear from its local musicians and talents never seen before thanks to the Bougainville Music Arts Academy which is organizing a three- days roadshow in Arawa from the 26th to the 29th of January, 2021.
This roadshow is for Bougainvillean aspiring musicians to show their talent and at the same time build confidence in playing live in public as many musicians just record on computers and cannot even sing their song live.
And also the academy has already trained some who will also perform at the show.
The venue is the Christmas Park opposite the Arawa town market and Telikom office.
According to the Director of the Arawa Music Arts Academy, Business houses and persons who want to put up stall will pay ONE HUNDRED KINA daily fee for the three days.
Groups who want to also perform will pay a Twenty Kina per song fee.

120121SOUTH BOUGAINVILLE GETS AID FROM NATIONAL MP TIMOTHY MASIU

Member representing South Bougainville in the National Parliament and Minister for Communications, TIMOTHY MASIU continuous to provide service to his people in South Bougainville.
On Sunday the honourable Mr Timothy Masiu presented K100, 000 to Tokaino Catholic Parish in Buin which was received by Fr. Ambros Kakatai and chairman.
Fundraising was done by locals in Tokaino but thanks to Mr Masiu, this is a relief for the parishioners. The donated money will now be used to do maintenance on the church.
On the same day as well, the National MP presented a cash cheque of K150, 000 to St. Andrews at Akampos chapel in Laguai village.
Last week Friday he presented a Land Cruiser to the South Bougainville Disease Surveillance Response Unit of the Health Division.
And a Dinghy and its engine is at the Ela Motors in Buka which will be moved to Buin for the hand over in March 2021.
