The Chief of Bougainville Police Service and SOE Controller Deputy Commissioner POLICE, FRANCIS TOKURA says that the Bougainville Police Service will commemorate the Bougainville Peace Agreement Day signing with a Dawn Service at 5am at the BEL ISI PARK.
In his SOE update tonight, COMMISSIONER TOKURA has called on the people of Buka town to come and witness the ceremony.
He said the ABG President GRAND CHIEF DR JOHN MOMIS will officiate at this ceremony.
The Bougainville Peace Agreement signing paved the way for the establishment of the Autonomous Bougainville Government which has addressed weapons disposal, good governance and referendum for Bougainville.
Police Commissioner Tokura called on candidates, supporters and scrutineers to support the electoral process to the very end with the declaration of winners.
He said that the result from the democratic electoral process must be respected by all.

280820 NO CHANGES AFTER 30 DAYS ON COVID 19 CASE

The Secretary for Health on Bougainville and Deputy SOE controller, CLEMENT TOTAVUN says that the one positive covid-19 case reported on Bougainville has remained mild and is still in isolation.
In his media brief, MR, TOTAVUN said that after 30 days there has not been another case reported on Bougainville.
MR. TOTAVUN said however this does not mean we stay complacent because covid 19 is on a rise in other parts of Papua New Guinea.
He said Bougainville will still maintain strict control on people who are travelling to Bougainville.
The requirement is that people who want to come to Bougainville must get tested at the Paradise Hospital by DR DAMIAN HASOLA before purchasing airline tickets.
And these documents must be produced to the Health team at the Buka airport on arrival.
Since the latest restrictions, only one flight each is allowed from the two airline operators every week to Bougainville.
People with no proper documents will be tested at the Buka airport and place under 14 day quarantine at their own costs.

280820 “LONG ROAD TO FREEDOM COMING TO ITS ENDS,”SAYS PRESIDENT

THE President of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville Grand Chief Doctor John Momis said that Bougainville’s long road to freedom is now coming to its end as independence will be achieved soon
He said the road to freedom is not easy and is full of big challenges that Bougainvilleans must reached with Unity and collaboration.
Hon. Momis said the quote “Long road to freedom coming to its end” doesn’t mean that the goal will be achieved soon and will be resting.NO.
Bougainvilleans must try and pursue ways to build new developments and to build a strong nation with Happiness and Hope for the future.
“We must seek ways to develop our resources like mining, fisheries, farming, tourism and other income producing activities and we must also develop services in our communities,” he says.
He said though Bougainville is rich with many resources, not many good developments were been achieved and that resources are still unused.
Hon. Momis said Bougainville’s resources remain dormant because the National or Colonial policies that the Bougainville government operates under, does not allow the action to take place.
He said National Budget is one of the factors that hinder the many good developments in the region.
Mr. President therefore encourages the people to develop income generating activities locally to support the government in its development process.

The PNG Weather Service and the PNG Maritime safety authority have released weather forecast for tonight and for the Next 24hours as okay.
The Waters of New Ireland East New Britain, West New Britain and Bougainville will be having South Easterly Winds at 10/15knots Seas expected to rise between 0.5m/1.5m High.
And scattered Showers and isolated thunder-storms will be expected in some areas within the next 24 hours.
Passenger boats must travel early between 5 to 6am only.

The Bougainville House of Representatives staff at Kubu are busy preparing the Parliament area for the staging of the 4th Inauguration of the Autonomous Bougainville Government on September, 22nd 2020.
This fourth house will be the transitional government that will consult with the National Government and set the date for the establishment of the new Independent State of Bougainville.
The dates that the Clerk and staff of the ABG Parliament are working on are as follows.
Counting will start on September 2nd to around 13th September, Return of writs on 15th September, Swearing in of the new President and the Caretaker cabinet on 16th September and the Inauguration ceremony is on Tuesday 22nd September, the first parliament will sit on 29th September, 2020.

270820 ONE MAN DEAD AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT IN SOUTH BOUGAINVILLE

One man is dead and the other fighting for his life at the Buin Health Center after the car they were travelling in plunged into the gorge on the highest peak of the DEURO pass this morning.
The vehicle owned by COBEC which was taken by youths in the Konnou area was the car that involved in this accident.
Police in Buin told New Dawn FM that the cause of the accident is not known at this stage however Police will investigate and make some arrests.
Meanwhile, the Head of Bougainville Police Service and Controller of the Bougainville SOE FRANCIS TOKURA has appealed to the people of Bougainville to stay calm and follow the new normal under the State of Emergency.

The Office of the Chief Secretary of BOUGAINVILLE has declared Monday 31st of August 2020 as a Public Holiday in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville to Commemorate the signing of the Bougainville Peace Agreement in 2001, 19 years ago.
The Bougainville Executive Council designated in the gazettal no 4/2018, under the public holiday act 2011 as a Public holiday in the region.
Because it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be taken as a public holiday.
All essential services like health services, Police and others will continue their duties as usual.
Normal work resumes on Tuesday 1st of September 2020

The State of Emergency Controller and Chief of Bougainville Police Service DEPUTY COMMISSIONER FOR POLICE,FRANCIS TOKURA this afternoon appealed to all candidates not to create trouble if they are not mandated by the people.
Commissioner TOKURA made this appeal after learning that some candidates have warned that they will create trouble if the result does not go in their favor.
He said candidates, scrutineers and their supporters must make sure they accept who ever is mandated by the people and prepare to work with this new government.
The Commissioner said that this new government has a very important task to achieve and must be allowed to do its work as soon as possible.
He said people who have issues can go to the Court of Disputed Returns for the Neutral body the courts to deal with their issues.

260820PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT PAPERS SAFE IN BUKA

Presidential ballot papers arrived safely from Central and South Bougainville under heavy Police and Scrutineers escort and were stored in the storage facility at the Buka Police Station this afternoon.
Our reporter covered the arrival of the escort passed TABUT junction and were immediately taken to Buka aboard the Ralf ship to Buka island.
The Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, GEORGE MANU personally followed the ballot Boxes to the Buka Police station ready for counting to begin next week.
As reported earlier Central, North and South Bougainville Constituency seats including former combatants and women’s seats will be counted in their respective regions.
