230620 440 CANDIDATES REGISTERED FOR THE 40 SEAT BOUGAINVILLE PARLIAMENT

At the close of nomination this afternoon a total of 440 candidates nominated with one for the Tonsu seat arriving just minutes after nominations close making him missing out on his chance of becoming a member.
This means that these 440 candidates will be trying to get into these 40 seats and at the end of the election 400 candidates will be unsuccessful.
This is the biggest number of candidates contesting in a Bougainville election since the Autonomous Bougainville Government was established in 2005.
In the Presidential seat, a total of 23 male candidates have nominated with two women also contesting the Presidential seat.
The women candidates are former ABG member representing the women of Central Bougainville in the first ABG House, MAGDALENE ITONA TOROANSI and the former Head of the Bougainville Healthy Community concept and Commissioner of the Bougainville Referendum Commission, RUBY MIRINGKA.
This is MS TOROANSI’s second attempt for the top post.
The first time she tried to contest for this seat was in 2010 when she lost to the outgoing President, Grand Chief DR JOHN MOMIS.
The rest of the Presidential candidates are as follows, ROBERT CHIKA TULSA, SIONE PAASIA, NICK FRANCIS PENIAI, PETER LEMAY TSIAMALILI, REUBEN SIARA, SIMON DUMARINU, PATRICK KOLES,
ISHMAEL TOROAMA, MARTIN RONALD MIRIORI, JAMES TANIS, THOMAS RAIVET, MICHAEL POPOSAN, SAMUEL KAUONA, ANDREW KAMOU MIRIKI, NEHEMIA PIIKA WESMA, BENARD S TZILU, JOE LERA, PAUL NERAU,SAMUEL SIPANEI MAIHA, BENJAMIN MURUNA, FIDELIS SEMOSO, KAPEATU PUARIA, JOHN BITI BULE.
The order of draw to allocate candidate numbers will be done tomorrow morning.
