The six candidates vying for the Bougainville Regional seat have started organizing their supporters and setting campaign teams after their names were drawn this morning and their numbers posted.
According to the order of draw conducted outside the Bougainville Electoral office by the Assistant Returning Officer, SIMON SOHEKE and witnessed by Police, supporters and the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, GEORGE MANU and election officials, the candidate numbers are as follows.
Candidate ten, ALBERT PUNGHAU
Candidate eleven, PETER MANUKA
Candidate twelve, SIMON DUMARINU
Candidate thirteen, PETER TSIAMALILI JR
Candidate fourteen, LLAINE MUNAU and Candidate 15, IAN MICHAEL MAPYA.
The Assistant Returning Officer said that they will be conducting ONE DAY polling for this by-election.

101220 SIX CANDIDATES WILL CONTEST THE BOUGAINVILLE REGIONAL SEAT

When nominations closed at four pm this afternoon, only six candidates will contest the Bougainville Regional seat left vacant by the former Regional member, JOE LERA.
As of close of nominations, the candidates were, LIANE MUNAU the only female candidate, SIMON DUMARINU and PETER TSIAMALILI contested the ABG Presidential seat in the Bougainville General elections, and ALBERT PUNGHAU who lost in his MOTUNA HUYONO/TOKUNUTUI constituency seat.
Other two candidates who nominated today are PETER MANUKA a longtime National Alliance Party strongman who is standing as Independent and another independent candidate IAN MICHAEL MAPYA who nominated just after 3pm this afternoon.
The order of draw will be conducted at the MATANEH BUILDING CAR PARK tomorrow morning.
At the close of nominations, SIMON SOHEKE the Assistant Returning Officer announced that SIMON DUMARINU is standing under the SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY and ALBERT PUNGHAU is standing under PANGU party but the party is yet to confirm this.
The others are standing as Independents.
Candidate, PETER MANUKA told his supporters before nominating that he is standing to empower the grassroots through the promotion of SMEs in the rural communities.
He said for Bougainville to support the President’s vision to rebuild the economy of Bougainville the grassroots must be supported to contribute towards this goal.
MR.MANUKA said that no investor will risk his monies to support Bougainville because OUR Law and Order situation is not good.

091220 FOUR CANDIDATES NOMINATE SO FAR

With just one day left before the close of nominations, four candidates have nominated so far for the Bougainville Regional Seat By-election since nominations opened last week.
As of yesterday, SIMON DUMARINU and ILANE MUNAU nominated in Arawa and PETER TSIAMALILI JUNIOR nominating in Buka.
Today one of Bougainville’s political heavyweight and former Minister for Peace Agreement and Consultations, ALBERT PUNGHAU nominated in Buka under PANGU party ticket.
MR. PUNGHAU said after nomination, that he wants to continue from where he left, the conduct of a very successful referendum.
Although he is a member of the Bougainville Consultation team, he wants the people to fully mandate him to carry on as a mandated leader for Bougainville.
From the nominations, there are three male and a female candidate vying for this Bougainville’s top job left by JOE LERA the former member who resigned to contest the ABG Presidential seat.
Also from the nominations, three, ILAINE MUNAU, ALBERT PUNGHAU and PETER TSIAMALILI Junior are from South Bougainville with SIMON DUMARINU from Central Bougainville.
Nominations will close at 4 pm tomorrow and order of draw will be conducted on Friday morning at the BEL ISI PARK.
