A community leader in the WAKUNAI district, KEVIN SIVO says that people in the communities are hungry for the correct information on the Peace Process.
He told New Dawn FM in Buka today, that his group of former combatants have been carrying out awareness in the communities and many people are happy.
MR. SIVO said that the Peace process and the upcoming referendum must be explained to the people that will vote when the time comes.
He also appealed to the communities to make it their priority to attend awareness programs that the government is giving to the people.
MR. SIVO said only then the people will get the information they need to prepare themselves for the referendum vote next year.

300718KOKOPAU URBAN A DREAM COME TRUE

The newly elected Chairman for the KOKOPAU Urban Community Government, HILLARY TSUNNO has thanked the people who have helped him change Kokopau to become an Urban town in Bougainville.
MR. TSUNNO who is a landowner from SELAU told the Swearing- in ceremony last Friday that many prophets of doom were against him and few landowners who saw the potential of KOKOPAU and started releasing land to people from especially South Bougainville to build and do business in Kokopau to cut the costs of goods being shipped from the Buka island.
He said now that KOKOPAU had become an urban Community government he wants to organize the Community Government to work on proper planning for the further expansion and planning of the KOKOPAU Town.
MR. TSUNNO said KOKOPAU is the entrance to mainland Bougainville and he wants law and order to improve to start marketing Bougainville to the world.

300718BPA GOOD AGREEMENT SAYS MOMIS

ABG President Chief DR. JOHN MOMIS says that the Bougainville Peace Agreement is a good agreement that has created the option for Peace and normalcy to take place after the Ten-year Bougainville conflict.
What it needs now is the commitment by the PNG Government and the ABG to fully implement the peace agreement.
Commenting on the many negative comments made by the former national member Daniel Tulapi, President MOMIS said that care is needed not to sabotage the great progress made in the peace process.
He said all parties need to commit themselves to the process.

300718NO TREASON FOR MAKING CHANGES SAYS MOMIS

ABG President Chief DR. JOHN MOMIS says claims by MR. DANIEL TULAPI that the National Parliament Members that voted for amendments including former Prime Ministers BILL SKATE and MEKERE MORAUTA have committed treason is also not true.
PRESIDENT MOMIS said that the constitutional amendment providing for the Bougainville referendum was in-acted in 2001 at the time when SIR MEKERE MORAUTA was the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.
He said that at no stage both the late BILL SKATE and SIR MEKERE MORAUTA offer a referendum or independence to Bougainville.
The ABG President said what MR. TULAPI has been preaching is that he seems to ignore the fact that the Bougainville Peace Agreement and the constitutional amendment that give effect to it were joint creations of PNG and the combined Bougainville leadership.
He said that the Peace Agreement was a political settlement to the worst ever violent conflict amongst Pacific islands people.

300718TULAPI PREACHING MISLEADING STATEMENTS

ABG President Chief DR.JOHN MOMIS today called on citizens of Bougainville and PNG to ignore misleading statements being circulated by the former member of National Parliament, DANIEL TULAPI about the Bougainville Peace Agreement and including the Bougainville Referendum.
President Momis made this call during a press conference with reporters in Buka this morning.
President MOMIS said that he was concerned that if these absurd claims are not answered, it may cause doubts about the validity of what the national constitution says about the referendum.
He said that the claims that the Papua New Guinea Parliament had no power to amend the PNG Constitution to provide for a Bougainville referendum on independence for Bougainville was also not true and misleading.
President MOMIS explained that the claims that the National Parliament should have called for a nationwide referendum from the people of Papua New Guinea to amend the constitution to accommodate the Bougainville referendum.
He said that the amendment made was not to grant Independence to Bougainville but to allow the people of Bougainville to choose what form of government they would want and one option must be an option for the political independence for Bougainville.
President Momis said that since independence the Papua New Guinea parliament had made more than 40 constitutional amendments none of them went through the referendum that MR. TULAPI is talking about.

Good News for our listeners in South Bougainville.
New Dawn FM will switch on its ONE KILOWAT FM Transmitter in Buin this weekend after it has been off for some time.
Technicians will be working on the equipment in Buin and by next week you can get New Dawn FM in South Bougainville on 89.9 MHZ on FM Band.
The equipment faced some technical issues and this resulted in we reducing to just 30 Watts for Buin town and then the Satalite downlink went off.
All these have been sorted out and we will be switching on late Friday or early Saturday morning.
For our Arawa listeners, Our ONE KILOWAT transmitter was removed and will be switched on next month.
New Dawn FM wishes to apologize to its listeners but we will come on in Arawa soon.

260718EDUCATION TO PHASE OUT OBE

The work of completely phasing out the Outcome Base Education curriculum will depend very much on the arrival of the new materials for the Standard Base Curriculum which the Education Department has opted for and is to start as of Week 5 of term 3.
This was announced today by the Standard Base Curriculum Co-ordinator for the Bougainville Education Department, CHRIS KOREARI.
MR. KOREARI told New Dawn FM this afternoon that Training of Trainers have already taken place to prepare Head Teachers and co-ordinators for this roll out for the new curriculum.
He said they are now waiting for the materials to arrive for them to switch to the new system.
MR KOREARIU said if the materials arrive late, then the introduction of the Standard Based Curriculum will be postponed to the 2019 School year.

260718KOKOPAU COMMUNITY GOVERNMENT SWEARING IN

The Notorious town of Kokopau on the northern tip of mainland Bougainville is changing its face with the swearing in of its newly elected Urban Community Government Ward members tomorrow.
Kokopau started out of nowhere to leave other district towns and became the fourth Urban town in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville similar to ARAWA, BUKA and BUIN in the South.
And in the first Urban Community Government elections just completed KOKOPAU urban community voted for their first members to start and put the KOKOPAU town in order.
The ceremony will be held at Kokopau starting Eleven am Bougainville Standard Time.

260718AITA MUST BE ADDRESSED

A regular traveller on the Arawa to Buka highway, PETER NOUKUI is calling on the ABG Minister for Technical Services, LUKE KARASTON and the local ABG Member THOMAS KERIRI to quickly fix the section of the Highway at AITA river so that vehicles can move freely there.
MR. NOUKUI told New Dawn FM that this section of the highway has become an ATM for the youths there who are continuously harassing the traveling vehicles and passengers for money.
He said that this week a knife wielding drug man nearly cut him at the bad section so he had to give him his last FIFTY KINA to let him go.
MR. NOUKUI said that the main AITA RIVER can be diverted back to its original place and this section fixed once and for all.
He questioned why the leaders are leaving the youths to control the traffic there and collect monies from the travelling public.
Our attempts to talk to the two members today were unsuccessful.
