The ABG Minister for Health DENNIS LOKONAI says that the Health Sector is already accelerating is efforts to deliver quality and affordable health care to the people of Bougainville.
He made these remarks at the Launching of the Medical ship MV YWAM in Buka today.
MR. LOKONAI said accessibility to Health care has always been a major challenge particularly for our people in hard-to-reach areas.
Most often we hear of mothers and children dying as a result of complications or from delay in getting to the nearest health facility.
He said lack of effective transport and logistics support has continued to play a major role in this dilemma.
Minister LOKONAI said this situation has prompted the ABG to consider viable options that can be utilized to respond to health needs of the people and deliver health services right to the community level.
Hence we are grateful and we sincerely thank the YWAM for partnership to deliver much needed health care to the hard-to-reach coastal communities and the Atolls of Bougainville.
The Health Minister said that it is the intention of his department to ensure that the clinical and public health services that will be provided with the support of the medical ship are of quality and affordable.
The Minister said that he hopes that the ship will provide advance health care services that are not readily available in our health facilities and Hospitals.
He said that as a responsible government we have a duty of care and responsibility to provide effective and efficient health services to the population of Bougainville.
