The ABG Minister for Health, DENNIS LOKONAI today welcomed the Youth With a Mission Medical ship to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The ship which arrived yesterday will be operating in Bougainville for the next five months.
At the launching ceremony in Buka, MR. LOKONAI welcomed the ship and its crew and medical volunteers and said that launching also includes the health outreach programs that the medical ship will conduct till the end of the year.
Minister Lokonai said that Health service remains an important sector of the MOMIS-MASONO government as demonstrated by its commitment with funding to bring the YWAM ship to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The Minister also thanked President Chief DR. JOHN MOMIS for his unwavering support to the Health sector.
Minister LOKONAI also said that the ABG Government had signed a number of MOU’s to deliver health programs and initiatives in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
These include health infrastructure development and public health programs.
The Minister for Health also announced MOU’s signed recently with Save the Children to deliver TB and HIV Programs and YWAM to deliver rural outreach programs to hard to reach coastal areas.
He said the TB and HIV programs are now being implemented in the region whilst the YWAM outreach program will start next week.
