By Aloysius Laukai
The Papua New Guinea Forest Authority says that the TONOLEI DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION must be re-registered if the landowners want their company to operate.
Speaking at the meeting between TONOLEI TRP area landowners, the ABG, the member for South Bougainville, local member for Konnou, the ABG member for KOKODA which shares the border with Konnou and investor, KK Connections, the Managing Director for the National Forest Authority, TUNOU SABUIN said that the landowners need to appoint new directors as most of the former directors have passed on.
He said that many issues need to be addressed before the company can apply to re-register with the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA).
MR. SABUIN said that the Tonolei Timber Rights Purchase or TRP had expired and needs to be renewed.
He said that the TRP permit is for only five years and TDC has ceased operation at the height of the Bougainville conflict around 1989.
