THE Member for South Bougainville, Timothy Masiu has praised the people of Buin town for “standing up to the law”.
Mr Masiu made the commendation in light of an incident in which citizens in Buin town successfully demanded the release of a government vehicle back to the office of the Member for South Bougainville.
The vehicle was forcefully taken from staffs of the member’s office prompting ordinary citizens to demand the culprits for the return of the vehicle.
Said Mr Masiu: “The important sentiment raised is the time for hijacking government vehicles is gone.
“It is a statement that the people’s mindset has certainly changed and the people are beginning to see and realise that the process to ensure peaceful living and better life is dialogue and understanding.”
Mr Masiu attributed the change in people’s attitude to numerous awareness by the ABG which promotes and encourages peaceful lifestyles and good conduct. The Member commended the ABG and President for continuing the awareness.
He added: “Buin town is now a different town than it was. The people are beginning to respect the law by not overloading vehicles, not carrying bush knives to town, and not drinking home brew in town also. And when the people do not want to disturb the government, then who are these few who want to be bigger than South Bougainville?”
“I commend the people for their support. No one in his right mind should hold the office of the people of south Bougainville to ransom.
“Everyone (leadership) of South Bougainville have an obligation to deliver services and they will not deviate from that mission.
“If I had all the money I will be able to help my people with all their needs, but the reality it is impossible to help everyone, said Mr Masiu.
The Member took a swipe at the national government for not releasing his DSIP funding after he had acquitted for the last four years.
