240117QUAKE HITS BOUGAINVILLE

The major earthquake that hit Bougainville two days ago has damaged properties and caused three deaths in South Bougainville according to the Police Commander/ senior Sergeant JOHN POPUI from the Buin Police Station.
SSergeant, JOHN POPUI told New Dawn FM that two kids are still being dugged out from earth and rocks that fell on the two children a boy and a girl who were swimming at the time of the incident. The 3rd child managed to escape with injuries.
The incident happened at OKOMO village in Buin district.

They are still buried they are trying to retrieve the bodies
Police unable to go to the location because of no road access.
Reports from Kauona village Nagovis says that a small girl seven years of age ,Janet Sipena was picking greens up the Pangara river when stones from another landslip smashed her head killing her instantly.
Police officere POPUI sais that they were waiting for Reporst from Torokina, which was close to the epicentre of the 8 point Quake.
Senior Sergent John POPUI is calling on the people of South Bougainville to report to Police any damages and deaths that the earthquake has caused.
He said that many houses in Buin were destroyed and fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, the Member for South Bougainville Timothy Masiu has already called on the National Disaster Office to support his people in this time of need.
MR.Masiu called from Port Moresby and said that he was monitoring the situation and will support wherever he can.

18/01/17 BUIN ACTIVITIES

BUIN town and South Bougainville will become the centre of attention when it plays host to a number of important events in the coming days.
Starting on Friday January 20th, a dedication service will be held for public servants in Buin, Siwai, Bana and Torokina during which public servants will be rededicated to their oath of service and refocus attention on their duty as servants of the people.
Then on January 31st, history will be made when New Dawn FM opens a studio in Buin, made possible with funding assistance from the Member for South Bougainville, Hon. Timothy Masiu.
The broadcasting studio will enable South Bougainville to be on the airwaves for the first time in many years. Test relay broadcast has created excitement among in the Southern Region.
On February 03rd, the laid back town will be graced by the presence of judges, lawyers and others in the law and justice sector for the legal year opening ceremony.
The district events committee has been working overtime to plan for all the events.

160117BUIN FM ON

Buin and South Bougainville has received FM signals for the first time since Bougainville was discovered in the 18th century.
New Dawn FM a local Bougainville station started testing its signals yesterday from its base in Buin town and received comments from BANA, SIWAI, BUIN and parts of Solomon islands last night.
NEW DAWN FM will be broadcasting on 89.9 FM Band from its studio in Buka and retransmitted in Buin and Arawa.
New dawn FM which started broadcasting in April 2008 has finally reached the home in South Bougainville after any setbacks and has a 1 Kilowatt Transmitter each for Arawa and Buin whilst the signals in Buka will be increased from 30watts to 300watts today, Monday 16th January 2017.
Since its inception, New Dawn FM has received support from the ABG through Program sponsors, the Bougainville Copper Foundation for its Arawa Transmitters,Member for South Bougainville, TIMOTHY MASIU for the Buin setup, Unesco for ths Buka Studio Equipments and the German Government for its Buka Transmitter.
With the wide coverage of South Bougainville, New Dawn FM intends to support the ABG and the COEs to provide the right information on Referendum and the general information on issues that can support the economic recovery of Bougainville.
New Dawn FM with its parent company TAMBOLEMA HOLDINGS will work more closely with the local; farmers to export Copra, Cocoa and sawn timber or other products to overseas market.
The official launching of New Dawn FM will be on Tuesday 31st of January,2017.
ALL Bougainvilleans are invited to this ceremony and will be carried live.

New Dawn FM a local Bougainville Radio Station started testing its signal yesterday Sunday January 2017, after its 1kilowatt Transmitter was installed at the weekend.
The signals have reached Sinkodo in Bana, Siwai all around Buin and also parts of Solomon Islands.

040117 MONEY OR YOUR FUTURE

As the date for the issue of the 2017 national election draws nearer, political parties and intending candidates are working around the clock to lure voters support.
Political parties, both old and new with intending candidates are using this period as awareness to explain their party policies to supporters and voters alike.
One elder from the Keriaka area of the West Coast of Bougainville, Mr. Peter Peka told a gathering organized by officials of the newly created SOM Party that the coming election is very important for Bougainville.
The meeting was organized for the people of Hagogohe Constituency heard that it is important for people Not to vote for money, but rather to vote for their future.
Another speaker told the meeting that voting for money will only make one poorer.
Most speakers stressed the importance of electing candidates to the national government who can work closely with the ABG Government.
At this critical period Bougainville needs leaders at all levels of governments who can work together to shoulder the referendum issue in order to arrive at an acceptable outcome.

The Christmas and New Year festive periods in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville passed without any major incidents of grave concern to the authorities.
Whilst is has been generally peaceful throughout the region, it cannot be denied that there were minor incidents experienced by some communities.

040117HAGO PAWA

The people of Hagogohe Constituency will soon benefit from the long awaited Electricity Project when power supply is finally connected and completed this year.
Half of the constituency will have power supply connected within the next couple of weeks while the remaining population will have to wait for the erecting of power poles in their area.
PNG Power employees have been working around the clock to try and connect power to as far as Poposoko Village before Christmas and New Year, but this was not possible.
But, it is now evident that power to this area will be switched on in a mat ter of days.

040117HORIFIC SCENE

The Law enforcing authorities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville are tight lipped about a triple murder in the Haku area towards Christmas last year.
The shooting down of the Four young men was carried out in public and on the main John Teosin Highway just before Christmas.
Reports say that family members and relatives of the victims were present and watched helplessly as their loved ones were mowed down by the eliminator’s gun.
Three of the victims died on the spot while the fourth tried to escape with wounds, but was later found and chopped to death.
The shooting was captured on mobile phones by those present at the scene of the killing at Eltupan Village, in the Haku area.
Police have not made any comment on the matter.
