The ABG President, DR. JOHN MOMIS has paid tribute to the late THOMAS ANIS who died at the Buka General Hospital last week.
DR.MOMIS in his condolence message to the family of the late THOMAS ANIS said that the people of Bougainville have lost yet another leader who wanted to see Bougainville become one of the few success countries in the world.
He said that the late THOMAS ANIS contributed his time and effort immensely for peace and stability throughout the region.
Funeral service for the late THOMAS ANIS was held at HAHELA yesterday afternoon before his body was taken to HAKU.
His body overnighted at his village and another funeral service at Lemaanmanu parish before he was finally put to rest in Haku this afternoon.

311013BISHOP PRAISES UN WOMEN

The Bishop of the United Church on Bougainville, BISHOP TIM AUTHER today praised the United Church Women’s Fellowship for putting up a very successful three days show in Buka town this week.
Bishop Auther made these comments at the closing of the 2013 United Church Women’s show at the BEL ISI PARK today.
He said that the show was sponsored by the women themselves and this shows that when people are committed they can perform miracles.
Bishop Auther also commended the women for making improvements at the 2013 show from the 2009 show.
He said that the show is held every two years and only hoped that the 2015 show will be even better.

311013CHIEF CALLS FOR ROAD UPGRADING TO START FROM KESSA By ALEX MUNME A PARAMOUNT Chief is calling for the Buka Ring road upgrading to start from Kessa at the Northern tip and progress towards Buka town. Herman Halihu made the call today in Buka, Autonomous Region of Bougainville. He says since this road upgrading and sealing project commenced eight years ago, nothing has really happened and the road is getting to its worse condition again. He says the people of Haku and the PMV trucks operating on this road are really affected. He says the people of Haku hear about a lot of money being put into upgrading and sealing the road but up until now there has been no real work done and seen as a result. Chief Halihu is calling on the Bougainville Regional Member in the National Parliament, Joe Lera and the Member for North Bougainville also in the National Parliament, Lauta Atoi to listen to his plea and further fund this project so that the road can be upgraded and sealed once and for all. He says that the project must start from Kessa in the Haku Constituency and move towards the Southern end back to Buka town. The former School Teacher and Councillor says local Contractors are miss using funds and many of them do not have the machinery, expertise and other capital to work with and so the road remained incomplete for so long. He is also recommending the Department of Works to take all these responsibilities of Road Works back as private contractors are not reliable. The 91 years old former Councillor adds that during his younger days when Works was the sole department doing all these road works, there wasn’t any hiccups, miss use of funds and the final quality of work was the best. Therefore he wants Works to take over and implement the road projects. Ends/////

311013ABG HAND BACK BODY

The ABG minister for Public service, JOEL BANAM yesterday afternoon officially handed over the body of the late THOMAS ANIS to the family at the Hahela church in Buka.

The late Thomas Anis died last weekend at the Buka Hospital.

And his requiem mass was held at Hahela yesterday before he was taken to Haku for his final rest.

ABG President,Dr.John Momis described him as a leader was always talking of a strong and united Bougainville.
Acting administrator Chris Siriosi called him a mentor and Joel Banam called on the people of Haku to follow his footsteps.

301013ABG BY ELECTION KICKS OFF

it is official, the long awaited Bougainville By Election for the five Constituencies in the ABG House of Representatives are now open for nominations.

Writs for this By election was formally signed and issued at 4pm this afternoon by the Speaker of the ABG House of Representatives, ANDREW MIRIKI at the ABG House.

The writs are for the seats of PEIT,Hagogohe, Rau,Kongara and Lule constituencies.

The issueing of writs was witnessed by the Bougainville Acting Electoral Commissioner, GEORGE MANU and staff of the Parliament.

Speaking at the Issuing of wits, Speaker ANDREW MIRIKI said that he was satisfied with the report presented by the Acting Electoral Commissioner, GEORGE MANU advising him that preparations for the conduct of the By election were on schedule.

He thanked the Acting Electoral Commissioner for a job well done leading up to the elections.

The Speaker said that he was confident that the elections will proceed and comer to completion well without hinderances.

Recently the Acting Electoral Commissioner announced dates for the conduct of the Bougainville BY election as follows. Acting Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, hereby set the following Election Schedule for the By Elections of PEIT,HAGOGOHE, RAU, KONGARA, AND LULE Constituencies in the Bougainville House of Representatives-
The purpose of the said election as follows:-
1. Issue of Writ (Opening of Nomination) Wednesday 30th October 2013
2. Close of Nomination Thursday 7th November 2013
3. Polling commences Wednesday 4th December 2013
4. Close of polling Thursday 12th December 2013
5. Return of Writ Thursday 19th December 2013

This means nominations for the By election is now open and it is expected that the first nominations are expected by tomorrow.
