141215 BISHOP CALLS FOR MORE COMMITMENT
By Aloysius Laukai
The Catholic people of Tubiana parish have been challenged to be more committed to their faith as they were the very people the early Missionaries chose to enter Bougainville 114 years ago.
These were the words from the Bishop of the Diocese of Bougainville, His Lordship, BISHOP BENARD UNABALI.
Bishop Unabali said that TUBIANA Parish was as old as the Church of Bougainville itself and the ordination of their first Priest was a good sign and called on the new ordained Priest, FR.GEORE BARUKA to get more youths from the Parish to join the religious life.
He said since the Church on Bougainville was established the Parish did not have a nun or a priest and this ordination was historic.
The Bishop also called on the Catholic faithful to support the work of their newly ordained priest.
FR.GEORGE BARUKA’s SISIRAI village on Pokpok island was the place the first Missionary, FR. PETER MEYER set foot on, on August 7th, 1901.
