The special Joint Supervisory Body Meeting between the Autonomous Bougainville Government and the National Government was convened this afternoon in Port Moresby.
This special JSB was to iron out details of the upcoming Bougainville Referendum to be held in 2019.
The agendas that were discussed were an Update of the Referendum, Questions to be put during the Referendum, Funding for the Referendum and the Joint Autonomy Review.
The meeting has been postponed to 10am tomorrow to give ample time for more discussions on the Questions to be put during the Referendum.
The Questions to be put are the very questions that will ask Bougainvilleans to choose to remain with Papua New Guinea or secede and form a new independent state.
As per the Bougainville Peace Agreement all matters relating to Bougainville’s Referendum have to be mutually agreed upon by both governments.
Also present at the JSB meeting was the newly appointed Chairman of the Bougainville Referendum Commission and former Prime Minister of Ireland Bertie Ahern.
Both Prime Minister O’Neil and President Momis welcomed Mr Ahern to the country as he prepares to lead the BRC.
