The member for South Bougainville in the Papua New Guinea National Parliament, TIMOTHY MASIU says water is a basic human need and not a want.
He said there is a need for the people of Bougainville to have good clean drinking water as our rivers were contaminated and not good for drinking.
MR MASIU was speaking at the Presentation of Ten water tanks to the MALUOKU community this afternoon.
MR. MASIU also presented construction funds to install the tanks totalling FOURTEEN THOUSAND KINA.
MR. MASIU said that he will continue to support communities and to help them establish good clean water supplies throughout South Bougainville.
He said that his District Development Authority has already approve a water project for Siwai district that would cost more than ONE MILLION KINA.
Meanwhile the chiefs and the women and youths whilst thanking the member said that it was the first time a member has come good to their community.
They said that their requests to various organizations in the past have fallen into deaf ears.
MR. MASIU further pledged another TWENTY THOUSAND KINA towards maintenance of a rundown classroom.
