BY JENNIFER NKUI
A representative from the Arawa district office has revealed that the problem of family planning now a days is with the young population because they are becoming pregnant when they are not yet ready and also at a very early age.
He said now that the Marie Stopes programme is in the district, the programme will help educate the mothers and the young population on family planning which will in turn minimise the problems that they are faced with every day.
Joachim Meirama, who represented the government body at the launching of the Marie Stopes programme in Bougainville in Arawa on Monday, appealed that the programme must outreach to the communities because most of our women, about 90 per cent are illiterate about a lot of things and family planning is one of them.
He stressed strongly that our mothers and young women need education on family planning so they can be able to control the population.
However, he also added that since the programmes are intimate programmes, both partners must be involved which is very important.
He pointed out that educating the young people who are now the majority of the population in the community will have a big impact because this is the problem that the programme must address, especially with the young generation.
