300611BBA proposes Happy city awareness
By ALOYSIUS LAUKAI
Bougainville Business Association or BBA will by next week submit a proposal to the newly established Bougainville China Cooperation Committee or BCCC for BBA to carry out awareness throughout Bougaiville on the proposed Happy city at Kokopau.
BBA executive committee director Thomas Rabanz says BBA would require about K500,000 to carry out awareness on the concept of Happy city proposed by Chinese investors early this month.
He said the Happy city concept would be a key factor in reviving the region’s economy however before any agreement is reached, there must be an awareness carried out to educate the public on what will be involved and how the people of Bougainville would benefit from it.
Ends
Here we go again, now it's "Happy City", or just a pie in the sky. Nothing is for free; this will be a costly experience for Bougainville. Sounds like another playground for the fat cats. Who is going to live there, people from the local communities? How affordable is it to live there? What will be the economic impact for the local communities in the short, medium and the long term, has that been researched? Rather than using the money for this type of awareness, put the K500,000 into developing the local communities, or use it for seed funding in the development for new small business ventures.

@Trace 3rd and 4th Generations.Your racist comments cannot be left unchallenged.Reading your comments,I can automatically tell that you come from a matrilineal society.Let me clarify something to you as a person from Buin.Momis's biological father is from Morou village(Buin)..and mind you em kam lo the highest chieftan clan(he's a chief by birth).I don't know where you come from mate but in Buin,we put our father's side first and foremost in everything and Momis is no different. The deal with the Chinese, the ABG is formatting under his auspices is also the same...he will put Bougainville first. He knows what he's doing.Em no laik bringim ol simple Chinese kam lo region, these are Multinational companies who have track record lo invest lo olgeta hap lo world.Their investment in the region will creat the much needed economic atmosphere we need in the region. Also bai ol partner wantaim ol Bougainville business man. There will be policies and guidelines set for them to follow.Sapos ol fail lo bihainim its simple,"out" from Bougainville.Yu tok yu save what President Momis is exactly up to,I tell you mate, you dont know a shit.Yu wok lo hide lo wanpla hole na guess-fire...stap..some people like you are very hard to understand.Mipla laik move forward..

Hi all, according to Deutronomy 5:9 our bloodline can be traced back to our 3rd and 4th generations. Our mindset and everything we do, say and think, can also be traced back to our 3rd and 4th generations. For instance, if my great grand parents were Indians, I would also bring Indians to build me a city here before I die.
I know exactly what President Momis is up to. Before he dies he must bring his own kind to the land of his promotion. This is allowed under the ABG constitution but not under the Meekamui. Surely, the Chinese will rule over Bougainville big time just as their great grandchild is ruling Bougainville today.
Bougainville will be better served if ABG and Meekamui governments can join forces and form a bigger united Government of Bougainville. Only then can Bougainville enjoy a balanced diet of ideologies between what is foreign and what is homegrown.

Rabanz need money, but certainly not k500,000. he can easily go radio Bougainville, new dawn fm, pamlets and other cost effective means to disseminate information. To me, it seems we could end up staging another crisis against the chinese, if development is not inclusive and coordinated. bvilleans are not ready to run with a mega city, only rich chinese might dominate it in future. develop human capacity at the same time, to develop its towns, etc, as it suits its conditions. I hear lots of educated opposition to this idea already on the streets

Was walking around Buka town this morning and noticed a public notice for a fundraising BBQ infront of City Pharmacy to raise funds for Buka General Hospital.
Rabanz, K500, 000.00 is too much for an awareness campaign. Give the K500, 000.00 to Buka General Hospital where it is needed most.
The awareness should be systematic:
1. People that matter most-the landowners. You may have a good plan for the Happy City but you have to make the Landowners Happy first.
2. The Local investors. How will they benefit, how can they invest in this development.
3. The rest of Bougainville. They will be repaying the loan. There are representatives in in Buka, Arawa and Buin of most citizens of Bougainville.
4. Once you have the support of the above, stage 2 of the awareness can go to all districts and COEs
Step i - 3 requires K20, 000.00 only. Step 4, needs K50, 000.00 because you are going to the Atolls and remote areas of Bougainville.
There are other cost effective ways available. You don't need to look far.

I dont know how this happy city would be able to revive the economy in the region. All I can see is that we'll be in debt with the chinese and be forced to sell our natural resources to the chinese for a cheaper price. Who builds a city for free???

Hold on now...K500,000 ?...Awareness doesn't need that much money!! Mr. Rabanz toksave yu must wokabaut gout wantim disla. If there is any hint of hidden agenda here, this project is off. I am a landowner in the area and keeping a close eye on this. For the moment I am in support of an economic zone, but it must be done properly from day one. Awareness should be around North Bougainville area only with minimal but sufficient information to other areas. I don't see the proposed city as huge. Something like down town Port Moresby, something that fits the requirement of an economic zone with relevant infrastructure would be fine. Primary to my expectation woulld be a green city - that means it must blend in, be environmentally friendly. I don't want a concrete jungle. You don't need half a million for the awareness. This is something that should cost less than K20,000 given the proximity of area around where the city would be located. Ai blo mi op na lukluk stap.
