270611RELIEF SUPPLIES DISTRIBUTED
By Aloysius Laukai
A team from the Bougainville Disaster and Emergency, Medical officers and government officials depart Buka tomorrow for the atolls to distribute relief food supplies and provide medical supplies.
Disaster and Emergency coordinator Franklyn Lacey says the team will be away for a week visiting Nissan, Fead, Mortlock, Tasman and Carterats atolls to provide much needed supplies to the more than 10,000 people living on these atolls.
He said atolls have been heavily impacted by lack of food after more than five months of dry weather which dried up most of their garden produce, living the islanders no choice but to survive on fish and coconut rations.
The provision of much needed food and medical supplies was made possible by the recent granting of K300,000 by the National government and Border Development Authority.
Mr Lacey, although grateful, said the money is not enough to sustain the islanders for more than three months and urged that the PNG and Bougainville governments source more funds to assist the islanders.

Em nau. Halia Constituency continue to overlook such people of his calibre. They have such good people within their midst. I am not sure whether this he is interested in politics at all, but he is a very worthy choice if he stands. Mr. Lacey has had stints in Restoration and Peace Building, Sports Administration, Land Court systems, Health and now Disaster/Emergency not to mention he is a Chief in his own right and very familiar with issues in Halia. He is a walking encyclopeda but doesn't flaunt it. Thats something to be admired. A true Ambassador/Commissioner candidate if Bougainville ever gets independence tomorrow. Good job and top performance in his current role of Disaster & Emgergency boss. Nigana!

Yu tok tru ya. As a close friend for many years I know Franklin is a top person and is one of those who is working hard with limited resources. As for politics, sanap sapos yu laik brats, but remember that politics is a double edged sword and has spoiled some good people. It takes a lot of strength and courage to resist the constant demands and pressures which can lead good people down the wrong path.

This Franklyn Lacey guy deserves a recognition for a job very well done so far. Despite the limited resources, he has been continously doing a good job on behalf of the ABG and people of Bougainville. Votim em tasol next election sapos em sanap - he is a true example of the silent and loyal workers of Bougainville.
All the while people are suffering the Regional Member goes and gives K100,000 to Rugby Union. Na olsem no ol man hungere na sick nabaut?
