310810UN STARTS BUSINESS
By Aloysius Laukai
The United Church on Bougainville today launched its Business arm to support its activities in the Autonomous Bougainville region.
The company called BOUGAINVILLE REGIONAL UNITED CHURCH ENTERPRISES LIMITED (BRUCEL).
United Church Bishop TIM AUTHER in launching the company said that BRUCEL will start with transport and move into other areas.
The Bishop also blessed a New Toyota Land Cruiser Ten seater to be based in Arawa to service Arawa to Buka and Arawa to Buin routes.
The bishop also thanked the Regional member for Bougainville for supporting the church to re-establish business activities to support its programs.
The Land Cruiser was bought with a ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND KINA donation from the Regional member.
The vehicle was bought for ONE HUNDRED AND NINE THOUSAND KINA.
Okay wantok...I see where you are coming from. I just have a problem with public money going to private Businesses. It is unfair to individuals and groups aspiring to create their own business too. In essence the above is nothing more than the same thing, except it has the word "Church" attached to its name.
It would make better management sense if public money was given out to some thing that benefits everyone and the accountability of it comes back. Otherwise the regional member would have to be prepared to help out anyone who wants to start a business. You get what I mean, Paulus. One would ask...who really owns the above business?? Does it come the normal scrutiny and audits now that is has got public money? Why didn't the United Church go to the commercial bank like many of us?

@Yo Yo
The service from the church is needed.
And so I say very good.
The main point is that the Government needs enough own inland revenues to build up a strong and independent country. There are groups, persons, churches, schools, hospitals, police,... who could work better if they would have better equipment. For this the Government needs OWN money. President Momis and the ABG can not always go to PNG and ask for money.

Very good. Most people haven't a car.
This are the small steps that make me happy.
But we need a lot of them.
And for many of these steps the government needs enough own inland revenues.
