The President of the Bougainville Women for Peace and Freedom, Josephine Kauona, has called on Bougainville women to unite and work to assist their other sisters in the autonomous province.
Mrs Kauona told New
Dawn FM that she was very concerned to help young mothers realize the
importance of being partners in development with their male counterparts.
She said that
currently a lot of women and young mothers were being helped with adult literacy
so that they will see the importance of being involved with community
activities.
Mrs Kauona said the
organization ‘Bougainville Women for Peace and Freedom’ has been working to
assist these women without any support from the Government.
She said Bougainville women must be assisted to develop and be
counted as equal partners in development.
“They must not be
allowed to be mere spectators on what is happening around them,” Mrs Kauona
said.
How true Josie, how true.
My wife works as a volunteer solicitor for a street front legal service where they provide legal representation for junkies, addicts, drunks and the homeless.
Virtually every story, behind every case it is the same.
No family support.
Last night she tied her experience to Bougainville with the comment. Whatever they do on Bougainville, they must continue to protect the family unit and make it even stronger.
Pretty much what Josie K is attempting.
Your family units, your clans, your traditional values are so important for a cohesive society in the future these sort of initives must be supported by all
