Members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bougainville joined a procession from Buka airport to Buka town on Thursday to honour the arrival on the island of a 10kg bible from the United States.
This was part of the Church's campaign for people around the world to read the bible, and even buy one of their own, as well as listening to preachers. The procession and speeches were broadcast live on New Dawn FM as part of the radio station’s involvement in community activities.
New Dawn FM also covered the draw of a raffle to assist the people of Carteret Islands, who have become the world’s first climate change refugees. The raffle raised K80,000 in just two weeks.
The big bible had been flown throughout PNG and and has now returned to the United States.
